The tropical rainforest is home to over 50% of the world's species of animals and many species of animals in the rainforest still have yet to be discovered. Many scientists believe that the reason that tropical rainforests are so diverse is that it is one of the oldest biomes on Earth. In the tropical rainforest there are common characteristics that most animals that live in the rainforest share. These characteristics are that many of the animals are used to living in trees and cling onto things easily, they have bright colors and sharp patterns, they have loud vocalizations, and most animals in the tropical rainforest have diets heavy on fruit.
Typical tropical rainforest animals consist of insects, birds, small and large mammals, amphibians, reptiles and much more. Insects are the largest group of animals living in the rainforest. Some common examples of insects in the tropical rainforest are butterflies, mosquitoes, stick insects and ants.
27% of birds in the world live in tropical rainforests. A common example of a bird in the tropical rainforest is a parrot.
Mammals are very prevalent in the tropical rainforest. Some examples of small mammals are chimpanzees which are found in West Africa, bats, mice and rats. An example of a large mammal found in the tropical rainforest in Southeast Asia is a tiger.
There are many species of amphibians in the tropical rainforest. One example of an amphibian in the tropical rainforest is a poison dart frog found in South America
Reptiles are numerous in the tropical rainforest as well. A common tropical rainforest reptile is a python.
